Transgender Day of Remembrance

Today, November 20, is Transgender Day of Remembrance and I was honored to tune into Equality Toledo’s event on Facebook this evening. If you have a moment, check out some of the wonderful memorials for those who lost their lives this year who senseless loss of life is remembered.

I have known some amazing trans folks but today I am remember two trans women specifically: Cara and Ruth. Both had profound influence in my life and I am a better person today because of their presence, even if short, in my life. Cara died some years ago from suicide, after living with much pain and agony. Ruth died recently in her 90s, after finding a community who loved and accepted her. I miss both of them.

Today, I am proud of Toledo and the work of Equality Toledo to remember those trans folks, especially trans people of color, who lost their lives to violence this year. If you have a moment, go check out the wonderful work of Equality Toledo and Sheena Barnes, who I hope someday to interview on my podcast. And if you have a few dollars, think about supporting Equity Toledo’s work.
